ARBEN

I have been kayaking and rowing since 2006. I attended ICF twice, the first one in Hungary and the second one in Milan. At the Palio of the Ancient Maritime Republics, I represented Venice on a galleon. I am graduated in environmental science and a coach at FICK.

I am a really decisive person.

MATTIA

My name is Mattia and all my life I have lived in Venice in contact with our Venice lagoon. I have a degree in naval engineering and after having done more than 15 years of rowing and rowing at a competitive level, I decided to undertake this activity. My goal is to introduce the beauty of Venice and its canals to as many people as possible, teaching them to respect it and to live it as only we Venetians know how to do!

EDOARDO

I'm Edoardo, I study environmental science in Venice. I've been rowing for ten years, and I'm very passionate about the canals and the lagoon. It's always a fun experience for me to share my interest of the city (the history, the nightlife and all of the hidden details and stories) with people, especially when they see the perspective of Venice from the canals for the first time.

About the project

Venetian Rowing is a project for the city. It’s the natural outcome of a bigger scheme: a sustainable form of tourism for a fragile city. We truly believe that a new form of tourism is possible!

We are a group of young Venetians (all of us are between 28-35 years old) who love their city and who are willing to pass this love to others. We live in the best city on earth and we believe that sharing this love with everyone is our duty. We are not jealous of our city :)

On the other hand, mass tourism has been dismantling our fragile ecosystem. That’s why we felt the need to do something for our city and for its people, by providing a form of tourism that could fit into Venice’s fragility.

We strongly believe in sustainable tourism. We love our city. Rowing in Venice means discovering its intimate part, the most hidden and beautiful places, without any environmental impact.

What does sustainability mean for us? It simply means that the city could benefit from tourism too: we believe that teaching an ancient art like Venetian rowing (voga alla veneta) could raise awareness on the need to rediscover a classic form of tourism, which enriches tourists for real.

At the end of your journey, you should be able to say: “Yeah, I have really been to Venice”.
